Vikings Valhalla Season 3: Everything we know so far

Vikings Valhalla Season 3: Everything we know so far

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 is officially heading our way.

Vikings: Valhalla, Netflix’s popular historical drama, will return for the Third season next year. The streamer announced the news with a clip on its Twitter account, with the short video teasing the next leg of our champions’ adventure. A year may seem like a long period, however, with clips such as this, the hype can only grow.

The second season of Vikings: Valhalla concluded with the three main characters, Freydis Eriksdottir, Leif Erikson, and Harald Sigursson, on different journeys. Freydis’ direction ended up taking her toward the legendary Viking stronghold of Jomsborg, where she gave birth to her son. Leif and Harald, on the other hand, embarked on a perilous adventure from across the Baltic Sea to Constantinople city. With their widely different directions seemly drawing them more and more apart, we can only suggest what the new season keeps for them.

The tv series, which is shot in Ireland, debuted on Netflix on Feb 25, 2022, and has since gained popularity. It introduces audiences to exciting tales and adventures of popular Vikings as they travel new routes all over Europe, even while discovering tensions in between Vikings’ Pagans and Christians.

What we can expect from Vikings: Valhalla next season

While speculating about where Vikings might go next is always risky, it’s completely obvious that Leif and Harald will keep going to widen the show’s scope in Constantinople since Vikings: Valhalla season 2 concludes.

As the second season shows, Leif has changed. He is gradually starting to embrace the Christian faith and wants to discover more about the world. He goes to Marieam’s house, which can develop his knowledge.

Elena, the mystical woman who associated with Harald on his trip to Constantinople, has caught Harald’s attention. It’s discovered that she’s engaged to the Emperor. So, if Harald wants to keep his head, any relationship between the two might have to be kept hidden.

In the meantime, Freydis’ path becomes far more open-ended. She has reached an agreement with Kattegat (and, by definition, Canute and Forkbeard). Now that the conflict is over, she can start focusing on raising her newborn son. However, new threats can appear at any time. If the Vikings are threatened, it may be up to her as the last holdout of the pagan ways to lead a comeback against any new threats.

Finally, Queen Emma has Godwin under her control in London. The Earl of Wessex may have gotten his desire by marrying Canute’s niece Gytha, but Emma discovered mysteries about his history in the process. With that critical data, which she could easily pass onto the Canute, Godwin might end up becoming Emma’s attack dog if England’s uncertain political situation changes.

Will Season 3 be the last?

While Netflix has only ordered three seasons of Vikings: Valhalla, creator Jeb Stuart has stated previously that he had intended to bring the end of the Viking Age in 1066.

“Most historians believe that the Viking era ended in 1066. That’s something I’d love to do. That will take more than three seasons for me. That would be [the conclusion]. There’s a lot of great history out there, and all of these characters have grown massively.”

Legacy also may link us toward what keeps happening in Season 3. There will be no spoilers here, but Harald will be spending a lot of time aside from his favorite Norway in Constantinople. In a discussion with Collider, creator Jeb Stuart stated that “culture change” would be critical for the series moving forward.

“I understood exactly where the Third season was flowing to be due to that cultural shift. I knew we were going to reach the New World eventually,” Stuart teased. “So, what’s in the toolbox? How do we restock Leif’s toolbox? What does Freydis bring to entice these citizens? Who are the last holdouts of the Pagan faith? As well as we know what was going on in Europe at that time. So it’s interesting for us.”

Stuart mentioned possible time jumps during the same discussion. If the series keeps moving to 1066, as Stuart wants to do, we may be skipping decades in upcoming seasons.

Casts of Season 3

Leif (Sam Corlett), Harald (Leo Suter), and Freydis (Frida Gustavsson) will no doubt return next season. The main cast will also include Queen Emma (Laura Berlin), Godwin (David Oakes), King Canute (Bradley Freegard), Queen Aelfgifu (Pollyanna McIntosh), and Elena (Sofya Lebedeva).

The primary victim of season 2 was Harald’s half-brother Olaf (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), who was killed by Freydis. While Vikings have never shied away from the supernatural, we’d be amazed if the pagan hunter reappears.

In the meantime, Erik the Red is the season’s initially confirmed newcomer. Goran Visnjic (The Boys) will perform the iconic Viking (as well as the father of Freydis and Leif).

Vikings Valhalla season 3 potential release date

The first season of the Vikings sequel series premiered on Netflix in Feb 2022, with the second season arriving 11 months later on Jan 12, 2023.

That means the third season will premiere at the end of this year or in early 2024. The best part is that the actors and crew already had finished Vikings Valhalla Season 3. So we shouldn’t be required to wait too long.
